The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona was created in 1963 for professional racing drivers, with a chronograph and tachymetric scale built to measure elapsed time and average speed. Reference 116515LN brought the model into 18ct Everose gold, Rolex's proprietary rose gold alloy, and paired it with a black Cerachrom ceramic bezel engraved with the tachymeter scale, giving the warm gold case a sharp, modern contrast. The ivory dial carries three chronograph counters, and the 40mm Oyster case is fitted with screw-down chronograph pushers and a Triplock winding crown.

Inside is the Rolex calibre 4130, a self-winding mechanical chronograph movement developed and manufactured entirely in-house. Its vertical clutch allows the chronograph to start and stop precisely without the seconds hand jumping, and its simplified architecture uses fewer components than a conventional chronograph for improved reliability. Protected by the waterproof Oyster case, the watch is water resistant to 100 metres.
