The A. Lange & Söhne Zeitwerk was introduced in 2009 as the first mechanical wristwatch to display hours and minutes with precisely jumping numerals read from left to right. Its design draws on the five-minute clock in the Semper Opera House in Dresden, and the German silver bridge that frames the time display has become one of the most recognizable signatures in modern haute horlogerie. This reference presents the digital hour and minute apertures against a black dial, with a small seconds sub-dial and a power reserve indicator completing the layout.
Inside is a Lange manufacture manually wound calibre developed specifically for the Zeitwerk's instantaneous jumping display. Because advancing the numeral discs demands far more energy than moving conventional hands, the movement uses a patented constant-force escapement (remontoir) that releases power in measured increments, keeping the rate stable across the full wind. The current generation of the Zeitwerk, calibre L043.6, is built around twin mainspring barrels for an extended power reserve, and the movement is finished to Lange's Saxon standards, visible through the sapphire caseback.
