The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona reference 116523 belongs to the first generation of Daytona powered by a movement developed entirely in-house by Rolex, introduced in 2000 and produced until 2016. Its Yellow Rolesor construction combines Oystersteel with 18ct yellow gold, pairing a steel case with a solid gold bezel engraved with a tachymetric scale, gold screw-down chronograph pushers, and a gold winding crown. The 40mm Oyster case frames a grey dial with three chronograph counters, applied hour markers, and luminescent hands, a combination that gives this two-tone Daytona a refined, understated character.

Inside is the Rolex calibre 4130, a self-winding mechanical chronograph movement with a vertical clutch and column wheel, which allow the chronograph to start and stop smoothly without the hand stutter associated with conventional designs. The architecture uses significantly fewer components than a typical chronograph, improving reliability, and delivers a power reserve of approximately 72 hours. The watch is worn on a two-tone Oyster bracelet with alternating steel and 18ct yellow gold links, secured by an Oysterlock folding safety clasp.
