The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 16202 is the modern successor to Gérald Genta's original 1972 Royal Oak, the reference 5402 that introduced the luxury steel sports watch and the octagonal bezel with eight exposed hexagonal screws. Launched in 2022 for the collection's 50th anniversary, the 16202 keeps the 39mm "Jumbo" Extra-Thin proportions collectors prize, and in this execution the case, bezel and integrated tapering bracelet are all crafted in 18K white gold. The blue Petite Tapisserie dial carries applied white gold baton hour markers and Royal Oak hands with luminescent coating, with a date window at 3 o'clock.

Inside is the Calibre 7121, a self-winding movement developed specifically for this generation of the Extra-Thin Royal Oak to succeed the long-serving Calibre 2121. It offers a longer power reserve and a quick-set date while preserving the slim case profile, and it is visible through a sapphire caseback that shows its decorated finishing and gold oscillating weight.
