The Zenith El Primero was introduced in 1969 as the world's first automatic chronograph movement, and this Chronomaster Original faithfully reissues the tricompax A386 that carried it, right down to the tri-color grey, black, and blue-grey dial collectors know as the panda layout. The 38mm stainless steel case keeps the period-correct dimensions and box-type sapphire crystal of the original 1969 piece, with faceted hour markers and slim baton hands that echo the design language Zenith debuted the El Primero with.
Inside is the calibre El Primero 3600, a self-winding column-wheel chronograph beating at a high 36,000 vibrations per hour (5 Hz) for precise 1/10th-of-a-second timing, a signature of the El Primero family since 1969. It offers a power reserve of approximately 60 hours and drives the hours, minutes, small seconds, and chronograph functions along with a date display, visible through a sapphire exhibition caseback.
